MOTORING AND FLEET

THE ZEV MANDATE MEANS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

By Richard Wilson, fleet and commercial vehicle consultant, ProFleet

You may have heard the term Zero Emission Vehicle mandate (ZEV) and wondered what it means for your business.

Put simply, it is the government’s way of encouraging manufacturers to sell more electric vehicles. It sets targets for the percentage of new vehicles sold by manufacturers that must be zero emission.

Under the current rules, the 2026 target is 33 per cent for new cars and 24 per cent for new vans or light commercial vehicles (LCVs). By 2030, those targets are set to rise to 80 per cent for cars and 70 per cent for vans.

But the ZEV mandate is currently under review. The government launched a new consultation in August this year looking at how the UK should progress towards its 2030 and 2035 targets. This means some of these ambitions could change.

So, what does this mean for your business? The mandate applies to manufacturers, not directly to

individual businesses. However, it will influence the vehicles manufacturers produce and the choices available.

For cars, the transition to electric is already well underway. For LCVs, it can be more complicated. Payload, mileage, range, charging and how the vehicle is used all need to be considered.

This is where ProFleet can help. We don’t believe in simply telling every business to ‘go electric’. We look at your fleet, your drivers and how your vehicles are actually being used. We can help identify where EVs could work, where they may not yet be suitable, and create a realistic replacement strategy around your business, budget and future requirements.

The ZEV mandate may be under review, but one thing remains clear: good fleet planning starts with understanding what is coming next.

You run your business, we manage your fleet.

GETTING LANCASHIRE’S GROWING BUSINESSES

ON THE ROAD By Bridget Brown,

managing director, Your Vehicle Rental

For many growing SMEs and ambitious startups across Lancashire, driving business expansion comes down to a frustrating catch 22. You need commercial vehicles to win work, service clients and generate revenue, but securing those vehicles via traditional routes can prove an uphill battle. We know first hand.

If your business is newly established, lacks three years of audited accounts, operates on an unconventional financial model, or simply falls outside rigid corporate credit scoring algorithms, traditional leasing and finance providers will often close the door.

Without access to essential mobility, growth stalls.

At Your Vehicle Rental (YVR), we believe financial criteria should not hold back business ambition. Modern fleet management requires agility, human understanding and solutions that mirror how businesses actually operate today.

That is where flexible vehicle rental provides a vital alternative path.

Rather than locking your business into multi-year financial commitments or risking outright rejection from automated credit checks, flexible rental offers rapid access to high spec commercial vans and executive cars from one day to 24 months.

Because we evaluate real operational needs rather than relying solely on automated box ticking, we help new starters, rapidly expanding teams and businesses with non standard financial profiles to secure the exact fleet support they require to keep moving.

Flexible rental protects your working capital, eliminates long term balance sheet liabilities and bridges critical growth phases without delay.

With the right flexible partner, you can access the vehicles you need today to drive the revenue of tomorrow.
