Friendship Heart Gallery & Studio
Friendship Heart Gallery has been present at Steeple View Lofts from the beginning. Operated by Friendship Community, the gallery exists as a creative arts studio for artists with developmental and intellectual disabilities and/ or autism. Teir creations grace the walls of apartments and common areas in Steeple View Lofts.
Marsha Petery, who served as the gallery director when it first opened, says, “It was fun to adorn the walls and complement this industrial space with ‘Heart’ art and it was also a fantastic way to introduce prospective loft residents to Friendship Heart Gallery. Tis casual, common area was intended to pique interest and curiosity in learning more about the Heart Gallery and to hopefully recruit future volunteers for our day program. It sure did! Over the years, many residents participated by volunteering and built lasting friendships with artists!”
Jeremy Detweiler, Associate Director of Operations for Friendship Community, praises the connections between the art studio and residents of Steeple View Lofts. “Residents will often stop into the Gallery and are captivated by the work being displayed there. Tey bring their family and friends to share about our mission and the incredible work created by the talented artists.”
Jeremy Detweiler goes on to say, “By welcoming businesses like the Heart Gallery and Miesse Candies onto Water Street,
Steeple View Lofts laid the foundation for transforming a quiet downtown street into a vibrant hub of connections fueled by good food, thoughtful entertainment, and beautiful works of art."
