STEEPLE VIEW LOFTS’ NEIGHBORS ARE A TRUE DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY.

T

he sense of community and collaboration within the Steeple View Lofts building comes not only from resident apartments

but extends to the retail spaces on the first floor. Not many apartment buildings can lay claim to a family chocolate business that has been running for nearly 150 years and an art gallery filled with creative expressions from local working artists.

Barb Breneman, a long-time Steeple View Lofts resident, captured this clearly when she said, “I moved in during 2014. It was amazing not only to smell the chocolate but to be able to walk right downstairs and buy it! I’ve gotten to know

Community, Together

the owner of Miesse Candies, Tracy Artus, and her team. She always makes us feel at home, and even gives us a discount!” Barb also noted that having the first-floor stores filled with repeat visitors has made a difference in the surrounding block. “When I first moved here, there were open store fronts and empty warehouses nearby. Now, the area is thriving with a movie theater, restaurants and other shops. I think seeing the collaboration between Miesse Candies and the Friendship Heart Gallery went a long way to making this area a destination.”

Miesse Candies

With the 2018 addition of a historic ice cream fountain from Shultz Pharmacy in York, PA, even more sweets lovers from Steeple View Lofts have been coming down to enjoy the treats. Te 12-foot soda fountain has been refurbished to operate as it would have originally. It features sodas made with 10 different syrups, milk shakes, egg creams and hand-dipped ice cream. Miesse has also brought back the beloved Pensupreme ice cream brand.

Barb and her friends from Steeple View Lofts make sure to attend special events like the recent “Ice Cream for Breakfast” day in early February. Barb says, “Miesse always works hard to have fun events all year long and they do so much to support the local community. We are so fortunate to have them in this building!”

Te connections go both ways. Miesse Candies owner, Tracy Artus, enjoys connecting with the residents, saying, “Barb has been a staple at Miesse Candies since we moved in nearly nine years ago. She is a true friend. We all look out for each other just like family which is a blessing."
