THE VISION OF A LIFELONG STUDENT
C
rossings Gallery has hosted the work of multiple artists since it opened in 2018. Last year, with no public showings possible, residents who are
artists began displaying their talents and providing a place where others could safely come to enjoy creativity. February 2021 brought a display of photographs by Don Ziegler.
Don grew up in Richmond, VA, and has always enjoyed spending time outdoors and exploring the natural world. Quoting from his artist statement:
Home was a peach orchard, honeybees, gardens and flowers. Father, a farmer and preacher, taught me spirit. Mother, a gardener and poet, taught me flowers – early mysteries, infusion of fragrance and color into shape.
Tough he worked as an educator and a marketer, he picked up backyard gardening and photography as hobbies. He took photos wherever he and his wife Priscilla lived. First Virginia, then the Congo and the West Bank and eventually, Lancaster County, PA.
Tey filled their back yard with native plants and trees, which became the source of his love of macro photography that exposes every tiny facet of a plant or flower. When Don and Priscilla moved to a hybrid home
“Like no other place I have lived, there
is so much kindness and gentleness here in how we treat each other. Our thoughtful stewardship of resources, our
environment and each other further strengthens our community.”
