THE LITTLE THINGS THAT BRING JOY

inter at Landis Homes usually brings the opportunity for residents to view holiday light displays via bus trips and join family
and friends giving tours of the countryside. When it became clear these options could not happen due to COVID-19, team member Celeste Gangaway got to work. Celeste, who serves as the director of activities for Personal Care and Healthcare, came up with a plan to ensure every resident in those parts of campus would be able to see lights and decorations right outside their own window.
When she shared the idea, it took off like wildfire among other team members. Te offers to provide lights and ornaments flooded in from family members, friends and even business supporters of Landis Homes. Gangaway said, “I am so grateful for all the team members that helped and went above and beyond. We were able to do far more than I thought we could do! But it wasn’t just me spreading the joy. I could not have done it without all the support of the team members.” A Facebook post with pictures of the displays reached 5,000 people and was shared a number of times.
Tis was only one way team members spread the Guiding Value of Joy during the holidays. Many also gathered to fill “goodie boxes” for every resident! Daniel McClain, Director of Dining Services, commented, “We wanted to deliver some Christmas joy to each resident since they couldn’t gather for a holiday party this year.” Baking thousands of homemade Christmas cookies and packing them up for each resident as a beautiful Christmas gift seemed daunting. Landis Homes chefs baked for days and staff from many departments became Christmas elves and packed, wrapped and delivered goodies to every single resident on campus.
