hile everyone has missed hugs, smiles and social interaction like eating or laughing together with family or friends, it has been encouraging to know

that “we are in this, together.” Te beautiful stories of neighbors looking out for neighbors, of residents and family members sending notes of encouragement to staff, of lights turned on across the nation to remember those who have lost their lives to this terrible virus – these are the things that have made us a stronger community, even while we have been physically distanced.

Cultivating

Life, Together

On January 19, 2021, when the Pennsylvania Department of Health updated the list for COVID-19 vaccine phases and added persons ages 65 and older and persons ages 16-64 with high-risk conditions to Phase 1A of distribution, most Landis Homes Residential Living, Steeple View Lofts and Mountain View Terrace residents became eligible. Vaccine clinics were already underway for residents of Landis Homes Healthcare and were scheduled for Personal Care at Landis Homes and Welsh Mountain Home, but many questions remained about how to help those living independently have access to the vaccine.

Landis Communities team members worked diligently, exploring multiple means of securing the vaccine. Limited supply, extreme weather conditions, and other complications caused delays, but Landis Homes hosted its first Residential Living vaccine clinic on March 4, with another the following week. Residents of Landis Homes and Steeple View Lofts who qualify under the current guidelines, as well as clients of Landis Adult Day Services and Landis at Home, members of the Lancaster Downtowners and those enrolled in Friends LifeCare who are eligible, were eager to be included.

Te word heard most throughout the clinics has been “hope” – hope for lives to be saved, for families to be reunited and for life to return to something more like what we knew before the pandemic.

Te goal of Landis Communities is to achieve at least an 80-85% vaccination rate across the organization. As of this writing, those vaccinated and scheduled to be vaccinated include 93% of Landis Homes eligible Healthcare residents, 90% of Personal Care residents, 86.1% of WMH residents, 93.6% of Landis Homes Residential Living residents, 97.7% of SVL, 62.8% of Mountain View Terrace residents, 73.3% ADS clients, and many more from Landis at Home, the

Lancaster Downtowners and Friends LifeCare. Team members across the organization are at a combined vaccination rate of 52.9%.

Some may still have questions about taking the vaccine, but scientific research and early distribution show that it is safe.

Across Landis Communities, we continue to follow the protocols to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19 and we are grateful for the hope the vaccine provides.
