I am grateful that although much has changed this past year, one thing that remains constant is the opportunity to learn and grow – as individuals and as a society.
W
hen Landis Communities began offering Pathways Institute for Lifelong Learning® courses in 2008, I looked
forward to participating in courses at age 55! I passed that milestone a few years ago but had not yet taken a course. Te Fall 2020 term offered an online book study of “Tis Mere Existence: Motivation and Strategies for Restoring Human Rights” by author Mark Kelley. It was on a Friday afternoon, a time my schedule is often open, so I jumped at the opportunity to sign up!
Interestingly, Mr. Kelley was my 9th grade English teacher at Lancaster Mennonite School. I always appreciated his teaching and inspiration through his love of literature. It was a true joy to learn from him again!
Pathways Institute is just one of the many ways Landis Communities residents and clients engage in expanding their knowledge. Tis issue of FLOURISH features stories of those who are Cultivating Lifelong Learning. In these pages, you will also read how a Lancaster City resident is Cultivating Meaningful Living as he continues to pursue a lifelong passion while starting a new chapter at Steeple View Lofts; how residents and team members of Welsh Mountain Home are Cultivating Community as they band together to navigate the pandemic; and how a Landis at Home caregiver is Cultivating Wellness as she helps one man stay in the home he loves.
Our goal is for these stories to bring you hope and inspiration for the days ahead. Guided by the values of Joy, Compassion, Integrity, Stewardship and Community, the residents, clients and team members of Landis Communities strive to enrich each day as we live and serve together.
Tank you for your prayers and encouragement. You are a blessing!

You may see images of individuals not wearing masks. Careful social distance was maintained as all photos were captured. Landis Communities recommends and follows the three W's: wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance.
