Age-Friendly Plan UNFOLDS T

he Age-Friendly Lancaster City initiative was formally launched in 2018, when

Lancaster was recognized by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Network as an Age-Friendly City. Landis Communities, along with the City of Lancaster and Lancaster Downtowners, spearheaded this effort.

Age-Friendly Lancaster City connects people and possibilities to ensure city residents can continue to live in healthy homes and neighborhoods as they age. Tis initiative builds on what Lancaster already does well for older adults and focuses on making Lancaster City an even more attractive place for all ages to thrive and flourish.

Landis Communities continues as one of the leaders in this effort and is playing a key role in developing the 2026 - 2028 Action Plan. Te plan

is being developed through extensive collaboration with residents, experts, and organizations all meeting together and determining focus points, currently identified as: Communication and Information, Housing, Transportation, and Respect and Social Inclusion.

Specific efforts to implement the plan are expected to include creating multiple digital and physical information hubs throughout the city, improving bus stop infrastructure, launching intergenerational programs, and advocating for more accessible housing options.

By growing intentional partnerships and elevating the voices of older adults, the plan aims to create a more inclusive, connected, and livable Lancaster City for all generations. More information can be found at www.cityoflancasterpa.gov/age-friendly.
