record system and eliminating the need to prepare paper notes ahead of every clinic. I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved for our staff and patients through dedication and team work, and happy to have had the chance to develop as a manager in this role with help from my colleagues.
TACKLING NEW CHALLENGES I’m just a few weeks into my latest role as business manager in the sexual health and HIV service, where I’m learning about this service’s unique challenges. I’ve already contacted the charity about bringing some volunteers into the service! I’m really excited and hope I can make a positive impact with the support of a great team.

“I know from experience that every role at the Trust is part of the greater whole, and it’s important to treat every individual with respect.”
Nick Spencer-Jones, business manager
In 11 years at the Trust, I’ve had the good fortune to have colleagues and managers who are kind, encouraging and honest, and I’ve always tried to emulate their approach. I think starting as a phlebotomist made me a better manager – I know from experience that every role at the Trust is part of the greater whole, and it’s important to treat every individual with respect. I’ve also learned that I can shape my own experience here. I’ve taken advantage of what the Trust has to offer, from courses to improvement
coach training to workshops like ‘In your shoes,’ which supports teams to work more empathetically and effectively, and I encourage others to do the same. I’d also recommend finding a mentor within the Trust – my mentor really helped me reflect on my day-to- day management and understand how other services work. These experiences have helped me grow and become so much more confident. I just love it here! I hope to stay with the Trust for years to come.”
