WELCOME
FROM KEVIN CROFT DIRECTOR OF PEOPLE AND ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT I
’m very proud to be introducing this special edition of Pulse, which focuses on how we’re ensuring our Trust is a great place to work and how to make the most of the opportunities on offer.
I’ve only been in post for a short time, but I’m already impressed by the talent, dedication and commitment that I’ve seen so far. I’m looking forward to meeting many more of you over the coming weeks and months. I’ve worked in the NHS since 1993, starting off in a health promotion unit, moving into training and development, before building a wider career in HR and organisational development. While I’ve really enjoyed all of my roles, I can truly say this is my dream job. Imperial College Healthcare has an amazing track record, nationally and internationally, in a wide range of specialties as well as in research and innovation, and education and training.
roles and that we enable and support all of our staff to achieve their potential but there is so much to build on. For me, a great place to work means strong and visible leadership, supportive and inspiring colleagues, a wide range of development opportunities and being able to influence all aspects of our work. But there are many other things we need for positive working lives – for example an environment suited to our needs, a particular challenge for us. These are all important themes in this edition and reflect what I see as the priorities for the refresh of the Trust’s people strategy that I will be taking forward.
“I can truly say this is my dream job.”
A new Frontier for consultants
Management and leadership skills are vital for doctors who are about to embark on their first position as a consultant. Our new development programme, Frontier, gives new consultants the opportunity to gain skills in finance, management and quality improvement.
“The transition to consultant is quite a daunting one,” says Dr Francesca Cleugh, associate medical director for quality improvement, who contributed to the design of the programme. “We wanted a programme to help consultants learn how to navigate organisational and NHS systems, influence change, develop services and lead.” Frontier, which launches later this autumn and will run several times each year, will include six days of classroom and experiential activities.
