ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS

Tsurumi tree planting project

Tsurumi Pumps UK are on track to achieve their target of planting in excess of 10,000 trees in the UK and overseas, as part of the ‘Tsurumi Tree Planting Project’ which was implemented at the start of this year.

They have pledged to plant a tree for every Tsurumi brand pump sold in 2024 to continue to contribute to their journey to net zero whilst supporting customers and Tsurumi pump users with their own nature and biodiversity strategies.

After calculating their figures, the total has amounted to an impressive 5,812 trees that had been ordered or planted by the end of June.

The planting of trees not only removes the equivalent of 4,641 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere but also has created 58 working days for tree planters in the UK and overseas.

Tsurumi Pumps UK has partnered with Carma, a B Corp-certified company that will

carry out the tree-planting project across a range of locations in the UK and Kenya.

Trees planted in the UK are planted by armed force veterans via The Green Task Force, a charity established to take action on issues surrounding the environment, whilst also assisting veterans back into employment.

6% of serving and former serving personnel, and 17% of those that have been in a combat situation, are suffering from some form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It has been proven that getting veterans involved in Nature-Based Therapy (NBT) has a positive effect on their mental health.

Trees planted overseas assist in providing work for those in areas where a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line.

One of the projects that Tsurumi have been able to contribute towards is the planting

of mangroves in Mteza Creek Kenya, which will provide fishing grounds and additional income streams for the local communities, where 62% live below the poverty line.

In addition, the mangroves will provide nutrition and sustainable harvests, whilst stabilising the coastlines as a vital defence during tropical storms.
