Special Finance rates help get new Drainage Division on the road

difficulties sourcing equipment. For Southern Energy Solutions, specially arranged finance rates have helped to get their new drainage division up and running.

While maintaining the UK drainage network is of vital importance, Mark Cox, Sales Manager at Rioned, says he understands that financing essential equipment has proved difficult for contractors since the Covid-19 outbreak.

“Lenders are tightening their belts so finance is not as accessible as it perhaps was previously. The uncertainty also has a big influence on customers purchasing decisions and expenditure budgets. To help we’ve arranged low start-finance package options through our finance partners to make it easier for our customers to get the business-critical equipment they need.”

It’s something that Southern Energy Solutions, a specialist plumbing, heating and electrical services firm based in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, were able to take advantage of when launching their new drainage division.

Director Zak Hurst says the Coronavirus lockdown occurred just as they were about to take delivery of new equipment: “It cast doubt on everything,” he explains. “Mark was able to arrange special rates, which included a three-month “payment holiday” and VAT deferral. This swayed the decision and will give us valuable time to build up a customer base and the work.”

In launching the new division, Southern Energy Solutions has taken delivery of a new RioCom 7.5t JetVac Combination Unit, with a 1950gpm Suction Pump and 2200psi @ 22gpm jetting rig. Powered by a PTO drive, the compact unit is both Stage V and ULEZ compliant.

While it is yet to be fully tested, Zak says the RioCom performed extremely well on its first septic tank emptying and jetting operation. “The engineer used to work with larger tankers and said the new machine was ‘ridiculously powerful’ when compared to bigger units. The fact that we can complete the suction and jetting work in one visit is a big advantage.”

The move into drainage is something the firm has been planning for some time, and with family members already working in the trade, there was the knowledge and experience to make it happen. Zak says that he also wanted to make sure the new team had the best kit available: “I did a lot of research, both online and through contacts in the industry to establish what equipment would be best for us.”

“It was clear that Rioned equipment is widely used by larger contractors. The Rioned finance package also made it a no-brainer when we looked at the monthly costs against our potential earnings.”

The firm has also taken delivery of an Andy Guest 4-Series van-pack jetter and CCTV camera set-up in a converted van supplied work-ready with a bulkhead, shelving, lights, and welfare equipment.

It’s early days for the new division but Zak is enthusiast about the opportunity: “I’ve been wanting to do it for years and once the decision was made we’ve really gone for it. The interest is already starting to grow and I’m sure it’s going to be a great addition to the business.”
