Keynote Are you ‘experienced’?

Welcome to the latest issue of Browse. We hope you’ll enjoy this issue’s mix of news, views and features which reflect the challenges and opportunities that the retail property market currently faces.

As the interviews with James Craig and Nick Prior of Oval Real Estate and AEW’s Rachel McIsaac illustrate, there are plenty of people who believe there are substantial opportunities that the sector presents.

Whilst media headlines continue to be grabbed by retailers and F&B operators who are struggling, there are still a raft of brands that are moving forward. Some have been with us for many years and are being rejuvenated – as the feature on Leonidas (p16) illustrates – while others like Skinsmiths (p26) and Hush (p8) are just setting out on the expansion trail.

The recurring theme among the retailers and food & drink operators who are flourishing is the ability to create an ‘experience’. But while most people agree that ‘experiential retail’ is the way forward, the question then is how to do you create it? Lizzie Knights’ visit to the Reformation store in New York (p20) is an eye-opening account of how one brand is trying to marry tech with the ‘in real life’ shopping experience.

Our experience is built on the work we do with some of the UK’s most exciting shopping environments and also many of the brightest and best brands. We’d like to have the chance to discuss with you how that experience could bring opportunity to your business.

In the meantime, we hope you find this issue interesting and thought-provoking.
