ECCO steps out
Footwear brand, ECCO, is planning to open 20–25 new stores across the UK, with eight being planned for the Greater London area. Colliers’ David Carlsson – who is advising ECCO on the expansion – reports: “These stores will be opened with ECCO’s ‘unity’ store concept which features a new store layout that is already being showcased at the brand’s flagship in Berlin”.
ECCO currently operates 41 stores throughout the UK, so the proposed expansion should see its retail footprint increase to around 65 by 2023.
In addition to new physical stores, the brand is also growing its online platform which saw 215% year-on- year revenue growth by the end of 2016.

Mexican sell-off
Taqueria in London’s Westbourne Grove opened in 2007 and led the subsequent wave of restaurants inspired by Mexican cuisine.
It was the creation of Fred Taylor and Dodi Miller – restaurant veterans turned Mexican food importers – who sought a valuation from Colliers London restaurant team when they received an approach to buy the business.
Head of Colliers’ Central London Restaurants team, Josh Leon, reports: “There has been a surge of interest in Mexican food, and we could see the enormous potential of a future roll-out of the concept.
“Despite softer market conditions, we valued the business including the lease at £1m – more than five times the EBITDA and over double the nearest comparable. The business was sold earlier this year at the asking price”.
