Kirkby lines up landmark


supermarket scheme


In what is believed to be the first major supermarket development in several years, a new Morrisons store is being planned for the redevelopment of Kirkby town centre near Liverpool.


Having advised St Modwen on their 2015 purchase of Kirkby town centre, Colliers’ Development team has since been working up plans for a major new retail park development.


Colliers’ Head of Retail Development, Greg Styles, comments: “We had identified the area as being under-served in terms of supermarket provision, and targeted the ‘Big Four’ operators together with the discount players in the sector.


“Morrisons, Asda, Aldi and Lidl all expressed interest in the new Knowsley Cross Retail Park development. In September, St Modwen exchanged an agreement for lease with Morrisons for a new 45,000 sq ft supermarket with a petrol filling station to anchor the new development.


“This is truly a landmark deal as it is believed to be the first new – rather than legacy – main supermarket development for around four years.”
