Jewellery Stars rise over Birmingham

When the Birmingham Trade Counter played host to the ‘Rising Stars’ exhibition between 19-22nd June, visitors were amazed by the outstanding levels of craftsmanship and creativity in the silver works of art on show.

The twenty-one silversmiths involved, sponsored by Cookson Precious Metals, along with the fi ve recently qualifi ed silversmiths from the Birmingham School of Jewellery, sponsored by the Birmingham Assay Offi ce, found the event to be a great platform for showing off their latest creations.

The event was bigger than ever this year with about 40 visitors on each day creating a real buzz of excitement around the work of the young talent that will be writing the silversmithing headlines of the future.

‘Cookson sponsored a particularly strong group of new silversmiths from Bishopsland. Already these young people are earning a living as silversmiths and jewellers with the support of companies like Cookson and the mentors who are helping them’ said Gordan Hamme founder of British Silver Week.

Looking to the future, Mr Hamme added ‘We’ll certainly showcase these young silversmiths again. The Birmingham Trade Counter was a great venue to show the trade and public the new talent that is currently coming through.’
