ow! That’s all I can say. What a phenomenal response to our fi rst issue of the Bench. I’ve only just

fi nished wading through all your wonderful letters and I think it’s fair to say that the fi rst issue really has set a bit of a benchmark!

Of course it’s always great to hear your feedback, especially when it’s so positive, but we’ve clearly made life diffi cult for ourselves by setting such a high standard.

Diffi cult in a good way of course.

In the world of jewellery making, the guns simply don’t come any bigger than Stephen Webster.

So issue two simply has to top issue one. That’s why we’ve drafted in the big guns. And, in the world of jewellery making, the guns simply don’t come any bigger than Stephen Webster, the wild man of rocks! You’ll read about his working life as the world’s most feted celebrity jeweller and gain some fascinating insights into Stephen Webster the man, too.

Of course June saw the launch of London Jewellery Week with The Jewellery Show hosting a coming together of all the talents at Somerset House in London. The event enabled us to take a sneak peek at all the coming trends including an insight into some distinctly exotic new materials and innovative technologies, delicate jewellery that’s barely there, bold

pieces straight off the catwalk and the rediscovery of long-lost traditional crafts to create some true pieces of history.

In fact, June really was an exciting month for all of us here at Cookson with our triumph in the ‘BEST FOR TOOLS’ category of the ‘Make Jewellery Magazine Awards!’ The award is voted for by 40,000 readers of the magazine so needless to say we were pretty chuff ed!

But, of course, while the Bench is about us, what it’s really all about is you and inspiring you with the very latest trends, products and techniques in the great wide world of jewellery-making.

For example, there’s a feature on Cookson’s exciting new range of beads and 24 pages bursting with hot gear and cool ideas.

Not to mention an interview with one of Britain’s up-and-comingest young jewellery designers, who gives some great tips on starting out as a successful jewellery designer and whose appearance in the pages of the Bench naturally trumps her recent appearance in Vogue!

Enjoy your jewellery journey. Justine Martin, Editor cooksonmagazine.com Check out

Issue 1 competition winner The winner of our iPad competition was Miss Stevens of Cornwall, ‘This is a huge surprise. Thank you Cookson for a great prize.’ She correctly said that the Queen was celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. This month’s competition is to win a £200 spending spree and can be found on page 23. Good luck!
