‘Everything for the jewellery maker’. It’s a bold claim indeed and one you’d only make if you were absolutely sure you could back it up...


So here at Cookson we decided to take our own ‘mystery shopper’ trip to see exactly how this audacious claim measures up at the sharp end on our busy Trade Counters.


Based in the UK’s two premier jewellery hubs, Birmingham’s Jewellery


Quarter and London’s Hatton Garden, the Cookson Trade Counters off er an ex-stock service on literally thousands of products from our bullion, fi ndings, chain, settings, gems, rings, tools and now beads range giving customers the opportunity to choose from the largest stock in the trade.


The fi rst thing that strikes you when you arrive is the way that customers are positively encouraged to get hands on with the products before they purchase. After all, there’s nothing quite like assessing the weight of a silver chain in the palm of your hand, running your fi ngers through a sea


of gleaming gemstones or snapping the jaws of a pair of pliers with a satisfying clunk for yourself. Just as French market stallholders famously invite customers to squeeze an apple or pinch a grape, it’s all part of making sure that you the customer go home satisfi ed. And there’s always an air of excitement and anticipation around these Trade Counters because many of Cookson’s new products can be seen for the fi rst time right here on the Trade Counter displays. There are also display samples so if you want to compare diff erent types of chain links you can do this too before you place your order. All 11,000 or more Cookson products can be ordered online or by phone for collection at the Counters, so you can just collect what you need when you need it.


All told, the Trade Counters serve 10's of thousands of customers each year. And on the days we visited numbers were swelling way beyond that with the buzz that had been created around Cookson’s all-new bead range.

Cookson’s Hatton Garden is a magnet for customers from the Home Counties and beyond. And occasionally The Back of Beyond!


New look for Cookson Trade Counter in London. Visitors have been known to make their own jewellery-making pilgrimage to Cookson’s in London from right across Europe with one visitor having dropped in recently all the way from rural Australia!


We were also told that Cookson Hatton Garden periodically attracts visitors from the rarefi ed world of fi lm and TV. So next time you’re watching your favourite costume drama, allow yourself to contemplate an intriguing possibility: that dazzling Edwardian choker… did she… could she have… made it herself?

A stylish refurbishment programme earlier this year under the watchful eye of manager Mark Adams, has certainly helped to attract London’s busy jewellery-making bees to the buzzing Hatton Garden honeypot. You’ll now fi nd a spacious display area with room for suppliers to run product demonstrations and allow customers to get up close and personal with all the gorgeousness on off er while they browse the showroom. There’s also a permanent exhibition of Marcia Lanyon’s beautiful precious and semi-precious beads, stones and pearls exclusive to the London Trade Counter with regular instore demonstrations held by Marcia herself.
