The 2020s: Time to embrace online learning

There has never been a better time to embrace online learning. Whether you are interested in getting into welding for the first time, running a course in learning to weld or offering your new employees a brush up on their safety and techniques before they begin, what could be better than an extensive online course, designed by experts, right at your fingertips? In this time of continued social-economic upheaval, second of course to taking care of our general wellbeing, it is vital that we remain productive to continue with both our own personal development and the development of our businesses and ever- growing fabrication industry. Weldability Sif’s new cloud-based eLearning platform allows you to complete your training just about anywhere. This audio-visual welding and fabrication eLearning course can be used for both

home-based learning and to compliment hands-on training in colleges and workshops. Rather than being stuck in an endless loop of scrolling through TikTok videos or binge-watching Riverdale on Netflix for the sixth time, learners interested in welding, or perhaps waiting to begin a new job in the sector, could be studying each of the recognised modern welding and cutting processes and gaining a good knowledge of the theory. This would provide the foundation to progress into further practical learning and a reliable job in a rewarding, vital industry. The course covers modules such as the Health and Safety at Work Act, which aims to stimulate and encourage high standards of health and safety in places of work, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safety signs, Control Of Substances

Hazardous To Health (COSHH), working at heights, basic first aid, manual handling, risk assessments, fire protection, electrical safety, workplace welfare, provision and use of work equipment, managing yourself and working relationships and commination and interpretation of information, before going on to cover the welding processes, their uses and the technique behind them. The soſtware runs in a web browser and requires an active internet connection. A sample of the online course is available via the View eLearning Demo button on the Weldability Sif Website. ■

Technical advice in the original SifTips style was started in 1932. ‘Sifbronzing’ is an almost universally recognised way of describing the low temperature bronze welding of sheet steel, cast iron and other metals. This explains why Sifbronze, the company which first developed and promoted the technique, is generally considered to be a supplier of high quality welding rods, wires, fluxes and equipment. ‘Will the Welder’ was a SifTips magazine that was produced in the early 1930s. The aim was to provide users with ideas and tips on how to get the most out of their welding equipment. Sif is renowned for its UK manufacturing heritage as well as its complete range of quality welding consumables used globally for almost a century.
