Here we are again, a year on and a lot of people are taking the opportunity to look back on the last year. Pause and reflect. We at Westermans have been fortunate enough to carry on working throughout the entire pandemic, which has been a blessing we are very thankful for. Though I think we are all ready for a break. The beaches of Cornwall are calling, or maybe the Scottish Highlands with my beloved bike. Summer is finally in sight; life is getting busier again and so is business.
The release of several funding and tax schemes has created a welcome boost in our business, and we are working 12-hour days to fulfil the demand for parts and equipment all over the world. Most orders in the UK and around the world are chasing immediate delivery and as quickly as our machines come in, they leave again to start their second life. I am taking this as an encouraging hint that global economic activity is recovering at a rate of knots, and we are expected to keep up with it.
It’s not only our sales team that are keeping us busy, our repair shop is as busy as ever as UK companies are limiting buying in from overseas, and favouring repairing their own existing machines. New laws on eco-design requirements mean EU manufacturers have to ensure spare parts are available for 10 years for new products launched from March 2021, which is a massive leap in sustainability and making our machines last longer. I’m a big believer in fixing what you have, not throwing it away. A belief that has brought me to where I am now, refurbishing second hand welders, selling new, and repairing all of yours!
So as life gets busier, business picks up and we begin rushing to keep up with increasing demand, don’t forget to stop and smell the roses, and appreciate the little things. For me that’s going to be getting out on my bike and visiting all my friends.
Until next time, take care, stay safe and look aſter each other.
