EDITOR’S LETTER
Welcome to this the second edition of Welding World for 2021. In keeping with the current mood we feel that it’s time to push ahead and make real progress. To that end we are delighted to unveil our free advertising offer to our membership. You will notice in this edition that there are a number of promotional quarter pages given to AWD members. We are proud to be able to give something back at exactly the time when our members need this boost the most. For those featured, make sure that you share this across all your channels and of course, keep up the momentum in future editions by taking up our targeted, low cost advertising. It was also time to highlight a major issue which we have been facing for a long time. The need to democratise our industry and open it up to more women is clear and our Women in Welding features shows that there are women who are already playing a key role. More though needs to be done, and it no doubt begins at school with the encouragement of more girls into STEM subjects. But even at the workshop level, there are some quick wins. Very few businesses for instance offer industrial clothing in a size which is appropriate for many women. More must be done to make women want to play their part in our industry - and it is a subject we will be coming back to in all editions throughout this year. For now then enjoy your digital edition, share your good news far and wide, and be positive about the recovery which is about to come.
