Gathered Ephesians 1:3-14

“With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.” (Ephesians 1:8b-10, NRSV)

As a tired year has drawn to a close and we antic-

ipate the bright possibilities of the year still to come, may we embrace the mystery of God’s will. It is indeed a mystery; we will not see it clearly

or understand it completely. But we don’t have to have full knowledge of it to hold it. We hold mystery regularly. Every time we hold a baby or an animal or a flow-

er, we hold mystery. We don’t claim to grasp the in- tricacies of how this wonder came to be, but we know beauty when we see it, and God’s will is beautiful.

As we move into this brand new year, closer to the

fullness of time than ever before, may we seek both to gather and be gathered. May we let God draw us close, and then, in turn, become a means of grace to someone else so that they, too, may be drawn close, until all things are gathered, all people are found, and all creation is finally home in the loving heart of God. May God bless us all as we step over the threshold

of this new year. ~ Lindy Tompson
