WINE, BEER AND SPIRIT TOURISM Vineyard-visiting/wine-tasting is an


established sector, with a huge choice of destinations, from the atmospheric Tokay cellars of Hungary to the slick Champagne makers of Épernay and the small, niche wineries of northern Baja, California. New World wine tourism can be a savvy option, as the harvest falls towards the end of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Matt Carter, of Buenos Aires-based Unico Trip says, “Mendoza is the main destination for food and wine tourism in Argentina, as it always has been. It’s got the most famous vineyards and some fantastic restaurants. Valle de Uco — an hour south of Mendoza — is the best place to visit.
