PAID CONTENT FOR PALAZZO DUCALE VENTURI
Palazzo Ducale Venturi PUGLIA, ITALY
Palazzo Ducale Venturi, once called Castello Nuovo, is now a luxury boutique hotel with 20 rooms, recognised by Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism. The palace is impressive, beginning its history as
a Templar settlement before becoming a medieval fortress. This long history is evident in both its small defensive windows and its huge, arched wooden doorway, over which sits the Venturi Duke’s coat of arms. Through the gate, guests will find a grand lobby, which is dominated by an enormous fireplace and decorated with numerous pieces of local art. Guests will feel the history of this place at every
turn. In the courtyard, for example, a well dating back to the 13th century provides a lovely focal point. Stories of the building’s past abound. Legend has it that the Duke Venturi had a passionate love affair with the Abbess of the convent of the nearby church of Sant’Antonio. To meet her, he had an underground tunnel built, which still exists today, connecting the palace to the monastery. Palazzo Ducale Venturi has two beautiful outdoor spaces: the main garden and the secret citrus
grove. The former is accessed through a colonnade adorned with roses, which overlooks a saltwater pool with a delightful pool bar. The nearby ancient armoury has been restored to comprise four luxury suites, two junior suites, a gym and a wellness area At the spa, guests can unwind with a variety of
massages, making use of the relaxing Himalayan salt heated beds. The aromatherapy oils used in treatments all contain ingredients from the Mediterranean, encouraging your mind to drift to olive groves and rolling wildflower meadows. The second garden, the palazzo’s citrus grove, is
an oasis of peace and relaxation. Here, the scents of the Mediterranean wash over you. This is the perfect place to sit quietly and read a book, enjoy an aperitif or simply watch the sun set. In the on-site restaurant, the culinary team
presents a modern, elegant and refined menu using fresh products sourced from the Salento Sea and its surrounding area. Great attention is also paid to breakfast, when
guests wake up to a wide range of freshly prepared delicacies in a beautifully tranquil setting.
DON’T MISS Enjoy the romantic dinner of your dreams in the citrus grove, with a special menu prepared by the culinary team
