Herdade da Malhadinha Nova ALENTEJO, PORTUGAL

A southcentral region of sunny Portugal, Alentejo has one of the lowest population densities in Europe, with plains as far as the eye can see, splashed by cork oaks, myriad bird species, fragrant flowers and wildlife. Located in Albernoa, in the heart of Alentejo, the unique Herdade da Malhadinha Nova is a family project that has blossomed over the past 20 years. A Relais & Châteaux member, the estate covers a total of 1,110 acres, with five accommodation houses that combine traditional and modern design. The property includes vines spread across a

sprawling 200 acres, with a purpose-built winery that takes advantage of the natural slopes. Alentejo- native cows, Iberian black pigs and black and white Merino sheep wander across the property, and there’s also a stud farm for purebred Lusitano horses. Guests can enjoy an authentic farm-to-table experience at their villas or in the on-site restaurant, with free- range eggs, garden vegetables and house-produced olive oil and honey. At Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, each villa merges perfectly with the surrounding area, and the design and interiors of each are inspired by its surroundings.

Guests can truly merge into nature at the

estate’s new M Wellness Spa. Minimal, timeless and immersive, the spa’s design is intended to create an intimate setting that makes guests feel at one with nature. The spa unearths different atmospheres through a journey where interior and exterior merge, celebrating the surrounding wine landscape. The natural flora of the property inspired the use of the colour green — presenting a handmade, hand-covered interior and exterior in shades of green. With tall windows spilling onto the Alentejo landscape, a signature design of the Portuguese architect Aires Mateus, the 110sq-metre spa includes a sensory shower, three treatment rooms and a sauna and offers exclusive facial treatments by the Azores-born brand Ignae, as well as body massages with wine, honey and rosemary — three primary ingredients of Herdade da Malhadinha Nova. In addition, guests can also enjoy yoga classes, forest baths, relaxation therapies or chakra alignment, plus nutritional lunches with organic ingredients produced on the estate, paired with wine, olive oil and honey.

DON’T MISS At the spa, enjoy a facial treatment by Azores brand Ignae, as well as body massages with wine, honey and rosemary
