Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos ROVANIEMI , FINLAND

A FROZEN MASTERPIECE RISING UP FROM A SNOWY WONDERLAND, THE ARCTIC SNOWHOTEL OFFERS AN UTTERLY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR GUESTS

The Arctic SnowHotel is located in the heart of Finnish Lapland, where the Arctic Circle casts its magical glow. It’s one of the largest entirely snow- built hotels in the Nordic countries, surrounded by forests and located just a half-hour drive from Rovaniemi Airport.

Snow Hotel Since 2008, this remarkable structure has captured the imaginations of countless visitors from around the globe. Ice is harvested every year from a nearby lake for the ice sculptures and for building the SnowHotel itself. The grand opening is celebrated every year on 15 December, and the season concludes at the end of March. The SnowHotel features a vast amount of snow and ice art, including reliefs, sculptures and even furniture made entirely of snow and ice. The hotel offers superior rooms for two or three

people, as well as family rooms for four to six people. Guests can also choose one of the unique suites, each with its own theme and unique sculptures.

136 Inside the hotel, the temperature is always close

to 0C, even if it’s below -20C outside. The rooms are equipped with comfortable mattresses and a warm sleeping bag. Thick snow walls dampen sounds, and amid the ice sculptures, the atmosphere is magical. If sleeping in the snow hotel becomes too exciting

in the middle of the night, Arctic SnowHotel also provides a warm area where guests can continue their sleep. The price of staying in the snow hotel includes a guided tour of the area and breakfast at the restaurant. Upon check-out, guests receive a certificate of their stay in Arctic conditions.

Northern Lights The dream of many a traveller is to witness the Northern Lights. Guests of the Arctic SnowHotel have a great chance to do so because there are no streetlights or large settlements near the hotel. There’s little need for a separate Northern Lights safari — simply step outside and gaze at the sky. Every winter, a special ‘Northern Lights guard’ is employed by the Arctic SnowHotel. This guard

works at night, keeping a keen eye on the sky and Northern Lights forecasts. When the lights are visible in the sky above the hotel, the guard wakes up guests who have indicated interest, so they can go outside in time to enjoy the magical glow. Arctic SnowHotel’s Glass Igloos offer an

alternative for Northern Lights hunting. They provide a 360-degree view of the sky and a Northern Lights alert system that tells you when to dim the lights and look to the sky. In the Kota Restaurant’s Sky Bar, you can enjoy drinks while gazing at the sky through a special roof window designed for stargazing and viewing the Northern Lights.

Restaurants The hotel’s own Ice Restaurant serves dinner in a unique environment, with ice and snow sculptures adorning the restaurant hall, and even the tables and benches are made of snow. The dishes are made from pure, locally sourced ingredients. A dessert served on an ice plate is an unmissable part of every Ice Restaurant menu.

The hotel’s Ice Bar is also entirely made of ice and

snow, with drinks served in an ice glass. Of course, not everything is served cold, with warm beverages also available. The icy surroundings make enjoying a steaming cup of hot chocolate extra special. The cosy Kota Restaurant at the Arctic SnowHotel

features a large fireplace in the middle of the room. Its role isn’t only to create atmosphere but also to play an important part in cooking. Dishes prepared over an open fire have a unique flavour — there’s probably no tastier salmon than one prepared in this way. After dinner, many guests like to sit at a large window that opens to the sky at Kota Restaurant’s Sky Bar, and raise a toast to the Northern Lights.

Ice Chapel The Arctic SnowHotel’s Ice chapel is a place where all weddings are undoubtedly white. The couple can even choose a ring box made of ice. The chapel can accommodate about 40 seated guests, with additional standing room available. Raise a toast in ice glasses at the Ice Bar before heading to dinner at the Ice Restaurant or the cosy Kota Restaurant.

You can also choose Arctic activities for the wedding party, from sleigh rides to snow sauna experiences.

Activities The frozen lake next to the hotel serves as a winter playground, where you can ice fish or drive an electric snowmobile. There are guided snowshoeing trips through the winter forest, too. Snowmobile safaris start by the lake, just a short

distance from the hotel. Electric snowmobiles are more eco-friendly and quieter than traditional ones. Arctic SnowHotel also offers snow and ice-related

activities even before opening on 15 December. In early winter, guests get a behind-the-scenes look and learn about the construction of the hotel. They can even create their own ice sculpture for the hotel. At the Arctic SnowHotel, guests can also

experience a Snow Sauna, which can’t be found anywhere else in the world. There’s a central stove surrounded by wooden benches, just like a regular sauna. Water poured on the hot stove creates steam and keeps the sauna warm. Additional steam emerges from the snowy walls.
