Bosque Guardián Lodge TARAPOTO, PERU

Bosque Guardián Lodge is a refuge within the Andean Amazon where travellers can reconnect with their senses through nature. It seeks to redefine the term ‘luxury’ to offer complete comfort in the Amazon Rainforest while leading conservation efforts to protect it. The lodge has been part of the Bosque Guardián association since 2018, which develops environmental and community projects in the Cordillera Escalera mountain range. Located 45 minutes from the city of Tarapoto in

the San Martín Region and surrounded by the Tiraco and Ponasillo rivers, every space in the lodge has been built with bamboo and recycled timber. Cosy bungalows with terraces overlook the Cordillera Escalera mountain range, while the lodge’s architecture enables travellers to take in the forest’s greenery, even from the bathroom’s shower. The lodge’s Callampa restaurant offers a

unique dining experience with contemporary and sustainable Amazonian cuisine. Here, travellers can enjoy a three-course meal made from produce harvested from the property’s bio-orchard and foraged from the forest.

The experiences on offer aim to deepen guests’

knowledge of the rainforest while also teaching them how to care for it. Bosque Guardián monitors the environmental wellbeing of the Amazon at various levels, including the Plan Jaguar, a system of camera traps that help maintain the habitat of this great South American feline. The lodge also focuses on recognition, research

and agroforestry — with a spotlight on cacao as well as social initiatives, such as stingless beekeeping and the Bosques de Papel artisanal paper workshop, where local women work with natural fibres and recycled paper to manufacture notebooks, wallets, among other handcrafted pieces. Trails lead travellers through their exploration of

the forest, from sedate walks to scenic viewpoints, to wending through a primary forest and encountering ancient trees, survivors of the deforestation that motivates ongoing rainforest preservation. Guests can combine excursions with relaxation

courtesy of massage sessions, including head massages with bamboo canes. Bosque Guardián Lodge also offers yoga and meditation spots.
