Calanoa Amazonas AMAZONAS, COLOMBIA

Hour an a half away from the buzzing city of Leticia, lies Calanoa Amazonas, a 125-acre conservation project and boutique hotel in the heart of the Amazon that promises to deliver an immersive and transformative experience. This tropical paradise is a labour of love by

husband-and-wife team, artist Diego and educator Marlene Samper, to contribute to the conservation of biological and cultural diversity in the most impressive jungle in the world. As a result, Calanoa is a one-of-a-kind setting that integrates art, design, architecture, community education and sustainable and respectful tourism. With only eight cabins — each a literal work

of art — guests can experience the wilderness of the jungle at its finest. The cabins, pavilions and social areas combine traditional techniques with a contemporary approach and sustainable architecture that uses local materials and resources. The woven palm roofs are beautiful and fresh, minimal walls enhance air circulation, structures built on stilts create better views and solar panels provide electricity. Guests are able to

enjoy a low-impact and sophisticated setting where luxury means swinging in a hammock to the sound of a symphony of birds. Calanoa Amazona’s famous cuisine is a fusion

of local Amazonian traditions with Brazilian, Colombian and Peruvian gastronomy, all put together by the owners’ creativity. Organic and fresh local produce, firewood cooking and freshly baked bread contribute to a tasty experience. From a night jungle safari to seeing pink dolphins,

people weaving baskets and being dwarfed by 400-year-old trees, the Calanoa experience offers an immersive discovery of the natural and cultural richness of the Amazonian basin. Through the Calanoa Foundation’s many

initiatives, visitors are able to contribute to the conservation of biological and cultural diversity in the Indigenous territories near Calanoa. The Tikuna, Cocama, Huitoto and Yagua territories benefit from these projects that are focused on environmental education, sustainable economic practices, preservation and recovery of ancestral knowledge and cultural traditions.

DON’T MISS Navigate the mighty Amazon River and contribute to the biocultural preservation of the Amazon basin
