Catalina’s Hideaway SANTA CATALINA, PANAMA

Catalina’s Hideaway is an eco-conscious luxury boutique hotel with a laid-back atmosphere. In 2013, Canadian owners Ryan Somes and Anthea Stanley left their high-profile finance jobs in Toronto to build their dream hotel on the Pacific Coast of Panama. As adventure-seekers, avid travellers and music-lovers, it’s immediately apparent that they put their hearts and souls into every aspect of the hotel. The lavish casitas and treehouses are situated

on 2.5 acres of secluded jungle-fringed coastline. There are 11 rooms with five different types for guests to choose from. The hotel can comfortably accommodate families and groups — either in the spacious beachfront and garden casitas (complete with loft spaces), in the luxurious jungle treehouses, or in the cosy ‘Bellwoods Inn’, which is comprised of four private rooms with patios overlooking a freshwater pond. Many of the rooms feature beautiful outdoor garden showers and eclectic interiors. Guests can enjoy daily yoga classes atop the stunning beachfront deck, stand up

paddleboarding, volleyball, horseback riding, mangrove tours and much more, as well as a clubhouse full of books and games. Dining in the Catalina’s Hideaway open-air

beachfront restaurant and bar, Sobremesa is an unforgettable experience. The cuisine embraces a local and sustainable philosophy, with fresh options for all preferences. Visitors can sip on a delicious signature cocktail or savour a glass of wine from the extensive wine list. With over 50 solar panels, greywater reuse,

organic soaps and a recycling program, the hotel utilises sophisticated sustainability practices. Catalina’s Hideaway is approximately 15

minutes from famous surf and diving town Santa Catalina, which is also a popular access point to Coiba National Park. Connected to the Galapagos and Cocos Islands, Coiba is a sprawling marine reserve where, depending on the season, whale sharks, humpbacks, pilot whales, and many other animals can be spotted. Dolphins and rays can often be seen breaching the water en route to one of the 38 pristine islands.

DON’T MISS Enjoy a day trip to the famous Coiba National Park to visit paradisiacal islands and spot breathtaking marine life
