PAID CONTENT FOR CASA DE LOS NARANJOS

Casa de los Naranjos CANARY ISLANDS, SPAIN

Casa de los Naranjos is a stately property that remained in the same family for 200 years until its conversion into a beautiful hotel. The building was in a state of semi-ruin, with collapsed wooden ceilings, cracked stone walls and woodworm-infested woodwork. Special care was taken to maintain original elements during the rehabilitation, respecting established spaces, uses, structures, shapes, materials and colours, so that the authentic charm of the house was preserved while achieving a new standard of style and quality. As a result of this process, the hotel is classed as ‘monumental’ and is officially designated by the Government of the Canary Islands as an ‘Emblematic Hotel’. The current owner discovered the house and

instantly fell in love with it while on holiday in Lanzarote. The charm and potential of the building was evident, and it wasn’t too damaged to not be able to recover the splendour of another era and the magic of its architecture. This is how this civil engineer and director of a multinational construction and services company in

Madrid opted for the creation of a unique hotel in Lanzarote — one that, after its recent inauguration, has already become one of the most charming hotels in the Canary Islands. The hotel’s signature sense of style combines

romanticism, decadence, luxury and organic design, in synerg with the heritage of the manor. All the furniture is antique and of diverse origin, with original pieces of the house preserved, and high ceilings and large windows serving as key features. Furthermore, many of the ‘new’ pieces of furniture have been made from wood recovered from the house. Naturalness has been a key element of

the overall design and finish, with a focus on simple lines, organic tones and natural textures, reinforced by the variety of large plants embellishing spaces across the hotel. The renovation was centred around wood, stone and lime — the original materials the house was built with. The majority of the carpentry and wooden floors have been retained, along with much of the overall design’s original palette.
