Editor’s letter

grew up in Cape Town, spending most of my life living no more than half an hour from the beach. This experience has stayed with me in two indelible ways: I have a high tolerance for sand in

my bathing suit and an unshakeable belief that life near the coast is just... better. Living in London has its perks, but there’s something supremely enriching about being able to taste sea salt on your lips, having access to the freshest seafood and being able to try, fail and try again to stand up on a surf oard whenever you’d like. Of course, not all of us are able to live near the beach, so we need

to get our fi x of salubrious coastal life on our travels. In this issue, we provide all the info on how to attempt your own aquatic adventure; from coasteering and surfi ng, to skimboarding and dinghy-sailing (p.8). We then sit down with the culinary innovators making the most of cooking on the coast (p.18) and share some good news from the world of conservation (p.24), before giving a rundown of the best annual festivals and events happening on shorelines around the world (p.30). And, of course, there’s our round up of the best hotels and resorts,

brought to you by our advertising partners, to help inspire you when planning your next coastal escape (p.32).
