Christmas Unwrapped Gift of Giving When every child survives

In the UK, over 80% of children with cancer survive. In parts of Africa and Asia, fewer than 30% do. World Child Cancer believes where a child is born should never decide whether they live. Imagine being told your child

has cancer and knowing treatment exists, but you can’t afford it. Or trav- elling for days to reach hospital, only to turn back because your child is too malnourished to survive treatment. Your gift can change that. Donate

£120, which could fund a hospital teacher for a month, £52 could sup- port a child’s survivor education scholarship for a month and £15 could provide life-saving food for a child in treatment. Children like Chinsini, pictured

with child life specialist Aida, as she celebrates finishing treatment, show what’s possible. World Child Can- cer supported Chinsini throughout care and now provides a survivor’s scholarship, helping her return to school and reclaim her childhood. A future for Dennis

On the lush green slopes of Colom- bia’s Sierra Nevada, 17-year-old Dennis

stands outside her This Christmas, help more children

survive cancer — your gift brings treatment, care and

education, giving the gift of childhood to children and their families

Dennis lifts her mochila — a hand- tin-

roofed house, watching the sun climb over the snow-capped peaks as day labourers head to the coffee and banana plantations below. Dennis grew up in the Indige-

nous Wiwa community, the second youngest of 11 siblings, in a home without books, where girls were taught to cook long before they learned to dream. Around her, the mountains shimmer with life, but the beauty hides a hard truth: pov- erty, violence and limited access to education leave many children with only two paths: to join an armed group or marry far too young.

Back the badge this Christmas

This Christmas, while most of us are sharing food and laughter with loved ones, thousands of emergency workers will be on shift, missing family moments to keep our communities safe

Behind every 999 call and every emer- gency response are people carrying an emotional weight few of us can imagine. On average, a blue light worker will experience around 500 traumatic events during their career. Most of us will face only three or

four such events. Te toll this takes on mental health and wellbeing can last a lifetime. Tat’s why the Blue Light Card

Foundation exists: to stand beside those who dedicate their lives to pro- tecting others. Te foundation sup- ports physical and wellbeing projects across the police, fire, ambulance, NHS and other blue light services, as well as veterans. From trauma recovery programmes

to wellbeing spaces, the foundation’s projects are helping people to rebuild confidence and connections. Every project is a reminder that behind the uniform is a person, a parent, a partner, a friend, who sometimes needs help too. Tis festive season, you can make

a difference. Whether you choose to give a one-off donation, send a digital card, sign up for a challenge or pledge a gift in your Will, your kindness helps ensure that support is available when it matters most. Together, we can make sure those

who protect us never have to carry the weight alone.

woven bag carrying not just her books, but the stories of her people stitched into its bright patterns. With support from Children Change Co- lombia, Dennis is rewriting her story — the first in her community to win a university scholarship.
