Give the gift of community this Christmas, because belonging is the greatest gift of all.
Ellie’s story
When Ellie first came to Harmony House, life had become very hard and increasingly lonely. Her husband had recently passed away, and the carer she trusted had stolen her savings. She had lost not just money, but confidence and faith in people.
Through our Companions service, we began supporting her, sitting beside her through
legal meetings, helping her recover what was taken, and joining her on weekly shopping trips that always ended with a chat and a cup of coffee. Bit by bit, Ellie began to feel like herself again. She later joined one of our community get together groups, and there, she found new friends and a renewed sense of purpose.
Before long, she was giving back, volunteering as a teacher in our IT sessions for older people, helping others navigate the increasingly online world. These days, Ellie is part
of the furniture at Harmony House. You will find her at our weekly community lunches, our toddlers and elders dance classes, and our indoor bowls sessions. She is living proof of what can happen when someone is met with kindness and given a place to belong.
This Christmas, that spirit matters more than ever. Rising costs and shrinking local services mean that for many, community is no longer a given. Yet within the walls of Harmony House, it still thrives, for now.
