HISTORY MADE BY GB CLIMBING ATHLETES
AT IFSC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Exceptional performances and many a bright future for GB climbers after a phenomenal 12 days of action at the IFSC World Championships, where a huge squad of GB Climbing and GB Paraclimbing athletes competed.
Toby Roberts came incredibly close to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after competing in the Boulder & Lead final, the first male British athlete to compete in such an event. Molly Thompson-Smith made finals of the Lead event, the first British
woman to do so, and was just four spots away from making the final of the Boulder & Lead combined Olympic format event. Meanwhile the GB Paraclimbing Team won four medals after seven
athletes qualified for finals. Abbie Robinson took her fourth World Champion title and her 10th gold medal, Richard Slocock won silver, and Martha Evans and Lux Losey Sail both won bronze.

brilliantly, with loads of athletes making semi- finals and Lucy Garlick earned a place in her third consecutive Youth World Champs Boulder final, were she placed 5th. And let’s not forget, we were so excited to witness the first ever Youth World Championships GB Speed medal! Rafe Stokes demonstrated he was the man to be beat after the first round of qualifications. He kept it clean all the way to the semi-finals until finally the wall bit back and he slipped. His recovery was immediate though and, despite the slip, he was only 0.1s off from the big final! He then brought it home in the small final, beating last year’s Youth World Champ to win Bronze.

PARTNERSHIP SUCCESS, THANKS TO SPORT ENGLAND
F
unding from Sport England has seen the BMC successfully working in closer collaboration with its four Funded Partners: Mountain Training UK & Ireland, (MTUKI) Mountain Training England (MTE), The Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) and National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes (NICAS).
The five-year funding aims to build a fully inclusive network of opportunities that spans a wide range of adventurous activities, providing opportunities for a broad demographic of participants. This is closely aligned with Sport England’s 10-year ‘Uniting The Movement’ vision to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity. It's great to see the BMC's collaboration with its partners and the positive impact it's having on the climbing and outdoor community. Through these collaborative efforts, we are fostering a community that thrives on inclusivity, ensuring that everyone can actively participate and find their place in the outdoors. The steps we are taking today are shaping a future where adventure knows no boundaries, where safety and diversity go hand in hand, and where the spirit of exploration ignites in all corners. As we build on these achievements, we are sowing the seeds of a brighter tomorrow, where every individual's journey is celebrated, and the beauty of the climbing landscape is enriched by the tapestry of experiences we all bring. Together, we are not just climbing mountains – we are uplifting lives, forging connections within our communities, creating inclusive environments where everyone can be active.
