NEWS BMC AREAS:GET INVOLVED

We have a number of vacant roles in our local areas, with a number of volunteers reaching the end of their terms at the next round of meetings in October.

BMC Areas meet four times a year to discuss a number of regional and national issues, as well as being a social gathering with speakers and quizzes. The role of the volunteers is to organise the meetings, and to feedback to Members’ Council.

If you’re keen to get stuck in please visit the BMC website to see the current and upcoming roles in your area, and to read role descriptions.

CLIMBERS AGAINST CANCER –

NO MAN LEFT

BEHIND

Climbers Against Cancer is partnering with Prostate Cancer Research to champion their mission: 'No man left behind' – striving for a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.

The awareness colour for Prostate Cancer is Blue. From September right through until the end of the year, all the profits from every blue item of CAC gear will be donated to a special collaborative project set up between Climbers Against Cancer and Prostate Cancer Research, exploring exercise and prostate cancer, a disease which affects over 1.4 million people worldwide each year, and over 50,000 in the UK alone.

Keep your eyes peeled for an exciting BMC x CAC collaboration coming soon!

ON SEA BIRD POPULATIONS Many climbing areas have been opened early after nesting season ended either due to birds fledging early or no birds at all. It may come as welcome news to climbers, but the drastic reality is that sea bird populations are being heavily impacted by climate change.

BMC STUDENT SAFETY SEMINAR 2023

The BMC Student Safety Seminar is for any students who are involved in running a climbing, hill walking or mountaineering club at their University. The seminar will be held at Plas y Brenin in North Wales on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October 2023.

Student clubs are invited to send any members who are involved in running the club, and are active walkers and/or climbers, and ideally working with less-experienced or novice club members. This event gives university club members the opportunity to improve their club practices and ensure safer enjoyment of our cliffs and mountains. The weekend comprises a mixture of lectures, discussions and practical workshops.
