Air Canada Announce Next Phase of Fleet Modernisation Program
AIR Canada has announced the next phase of its fleet modernisation program with the addition of the Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft. The airline will welcome eight aircraft
to its fleet, and has rights to purchase eight other A350-1000s, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second half of 2030. “Air Canada’s acquisition of the Airbus A350-1000 will further solidify our position as a leading global airline through the next decade. This state-of-the-art aircraft adds a new dimension to Air Canada’s long-haul capabilities, with impressive range, enhanced payload, and proven economics that unlock new possibilities for long-haul flying for our customers,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, and President of Cargo at Air Canada. “The addition of the Airbus A350-1000 to
our fleet is a forward-looking investment that strengthens Air Canada’s long-term cost efficiency,” said John Di Bert, Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, Air
Canada. “These aircraft will deliver improved operating economics, enhance our operational reliability, and ensure we remain competitive across our global network.
The
aircraft’s lighter materials and advanced engines deliver meaningful fuel-burn improvements versus the aircraft they replace,
supporting
our financial and environmental objectives. This order is another step in the modernisation of our fleet and is aligned with our capital allocation priorities and our target to maintain capital investments at or below 12 per cent of revenues.” Powered by the XWB97 engine from Rolls Royce and fabricated using lighter weight materials, it is estimated
the aircraft will deliver up to a 25 per cent
fuel consumption reduction
compared to the previous generation aircraft, as estimated by Airbus. The A350-1000 has a potential range of approximately 9,000 nautical miles. According to Airbus, customers will experience the quietest twin- aisle cabin available. It is designed to be pressurised to only 6,000 feet to reduce stress on the body, minimise
jet lag and deliver a
noticeably more comfortable travel experience. The A350-1000 will come equipped with the latest generation in-flight entertainment screens and connectivity, as well as Air Canada’s new cabin standard, which is being introduced later this year.
Steve Heapy, CEO at Jet2 said, “We are always
looking at how we can
further improve our incredible customer experience, and today’s announcement means our customers can choose from an even bigger selection of attractions and activities when enjoying their award- winning flights and holidays with us. Once live for our independent travel agency partners, this partnership with Musement will mean that they can offer a best-in- class choice of things to do, enhancing the Jet2holidays experience even further.” Peter Ulwahn, TUI Musement CEO,

Furthermore, this partnership reaffirms Musement’s position as the leading B2B partner for Tours & Activities, and our team is ready to work with Jet2 in providing great experiences for their customers.”

New Travel Rules for Dual Nationals as UK Government Implement Changes
THE government has stated that Dual British Nationals will be required to use a valid British passport upon entering the UK from February 2026 following the
rollout of the
Authorisation system. Lisa Uttley,
Electronic Immigration partner
travel at
Gherson Solicitors LLP warns that the new government measures could impose additional costs and complications for citizens living overseas. She added that, “Turning up with only a foreign passport will no longer be enough, unless it carries a Certificate of Entitlement confirming your right of abode, at a steep cost of £589.
She continued, “Dual citizens who live
abroad and let their British passport lapse will now face renewal costs or a hefty certificate fee just to travel home. For some, it feels less like administrative tidying and more like a bureaucratic squeeze. Ultimately, the rule reflects a broader trend: borders are becoming more digitised, more system-driven and less flexible. Citizenship still provides an unfettered right of entry but increasingly, only if it’s presented in the right format.”
The change will bring clarity to airlines but may create extra costs for dual nationals
who’s British passports may have expired.
