Summer is On! Jet2 Restates Confidence in Jet Fuel Supply

JET2 has issued a statement reporting positive updates about fuel supply, supporting plans to operate its flying programme as normal this summer. This announcement comes following

the company’s latest dialogue with fuel suppliers, who have reported increased production and additional imports from areas unaffected by the Middle East conflict. Jet2 has already confirmed its plans to operate as normal this summer and, on top of that, was the first UK airline and tour operator to reassure customers that it would not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, for example jet fuel. In an industry-leading move,

Jet2

removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays, even though it has never been applied.

Commenting on the news, Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2 said: “We are in regular dialogue with our fuel suppliers, and the current picture is one of increased production and imports, meaning we continue to look ahead with confidence. Heapy continued, “We have already been very clear about our plans to operate our schedule as normal this summer, and our message to holidaymakers is that summer is on.”

Dublin to Come Alive at Night as New Council Initiative Begins

DUBLIN City Council is reminding the public that its new monthly initiative called ‘Dublin by Dusk’ will begin this Thursday (28th May).

On the last Thursday of each month

after 6pm, people are being invited to explore what Dublin has to offer through culture,

hospitality, entertainment and

“A Holiday Should Not Be Something That Only The Rich Can Afford” Says Jet2 CEO

JET2 has set out how the government can work with the travel industry to keep holidays affordable for families, whilst creating skilled jobs and career opportunities across the UK. Speaking at a Jet2 parliamentary reception attended by the Aviation Minister, MPs, and stakeholders from across the aviation and travel industries, CEO Steve Heapy highlighted the importance of investing in careers and skills, policies that support future leadership development, and keeping holidays affordable.

Jet2 demonstrated how attracting and developing the next generation of talent is critical, for instance through Jet2FlightPath, its fully funded pilot training programme. The programme currently has 60 colleagues in training, with a further 60 about to be appointed, opening aviation careers to those who do not have the means to fund the £100,000-plus cost of learning to fly. The airline also used the event to announce two new apprenticeship programmes: Aviation Customer Service Operatives, a nine-month programme creating at least 40 new opportunities across Jet2 bases and supporting

seasonal colleagues to build

long-term careers. Jet2 is the first employer to deliver this shorter apprenticeship following recent reforms. Mechatronics Maintenance Technicians, a four-year apprenticeship, training the next generation of engineers to maintain

flight simulators at Jet2’s training centres in Cheadle and Bradford.

These new programmes sit alongside almost 50 existing apprenticeship programmes across the business, spanning areas such as IT, operations, and engineering. Mr Heapy said:

“Our 19,000 colleagues make our

affordable holidays happen. They have helped us build our reputation as one of the most trusted travel brands in the world. It just shows what you can achieve if you back skills, progression and great careers. We want to work with the government so more people can progress and succeed, no matter their background.” Jet2 confirmed that it has removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays, even though the company has never previously applied them. Mr Heapy concluded:

“Nothing beats the feeling of going on holiday and coming home all the better for it. Families plan, save for, and look forward to their holidays all year. It is that one chance to properly switch off and spend time together. Yet, even in one of the richest countries in the world, it can be too expensive for some people and that should give us pause for thought. A holiday should not be something that only the rich can afford, and it is vital that policy enables everyone to enjoy that

well-deserved holiday.”

POPULAR amongst backpackers and adventure-seekers, over 40 countries will now be able to travel visa-free for up to 30 days to Sri Lanka. Seated within the Indian Ocean, it’s parliament has approved these regulations to boost tourism in the area.

Announced to parliament by Public Security and Parliament Affairs Minister, Anada Wijepala, countries stated within the regulation include the United kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada, Spain, Turkey and New Zealand to name a few. China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia and Thailand has previously been granted free- visa access at an earlier date. Travellers will still be required to hold a Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for travel, but the regulation wavers a visa fee for those visiting within 30 days. The Sri Lankan parliament expect the ruling to encourage up to 247,000 more tourists to visit.

Participating venues and experiences include the National Gallery of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Dublinia, art bars, cocktail experiences and a range of cultural and hospitality spaces across the city. Ray O’Donoghue, Night-Time Economy Advisor with Dublin City Council, said: “Dublin by Dusk is about encouraging people to experience the city in a different way after 6pm. People are increasingly looking for experience-led evenings and more variety in how they spend time in the city. This programme is about making those experiences easier to discover and encouraging more people to explore the city centre at night. You could start the evening at the National Gallery, go for food or drinks afterwards, take in live music, explore somewhere new and even stay overnight in the city. That is the kind of joined-up evening experience we want to continue developing across Dublin.” ‘Dublin by Dusk’ forms part of wider

efforts to support Dublin’s evolving night- time economy while promoting a vibrant,

welcoming and accessible city after dark.
