THE European Commission has approved easyJet as the short haul remedy taker as part of the proposed acquisition of a stake in ITA Airways by Lufthansa. As a result, from spring 2025 easyJet will base five aircraft at Milan Linate and three at Rome Fiumicino creating around 300 jobs across the two bases.

Airline Confirms Expansion Plans with New Bases Across Europe
The decision means that easyJet will be able to offer a wider choice in destinations and affordable fares for people travelling to and from the two main Italian cities. From spring 2025 easyJet will base a total of 38 aircraft in Italy across its four bases in Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Rome Fiumicino and Naples. In total it will operate to and from 20 Italian airports flying more than 20 million customers to and from Italy annually. Milan Malpensa will continue to be at the heart of easyJet’s European and Italian network being its largest base in continental Europe where it has recently celebrated the key milestone of 100 million passengers
carried to and from the hub since it started operations in 1998. In the last 26 years easyJet has carried more than 210 million passengers to and from Italy. Kenton Jarvis, easyJet CFO and incoming
CEO, commented: “We are pleased to be approved as the short-haul remedy taker in Milan and Rome. This will ensure the Italian market remains competitive, with
easyJet now able to offer a wider choice of destinations and low fares for Italian consumers, with those flying to and from Linate and Rome benefiting from new services from spring onwards. This move also confirms the airline’s key role in the Italian market providing the opportunity for continued investment.

NI Travel News’ Sarah attended a trade update breakfast morning with Belfast City Airport and KLM. Hosted at the Merchant Hotel Belfast, agents enjoyed learning all about KLM and their twice weekly route from Belfast City Airport. KLM’s double daily route form Belfast City Airport took off back in October 2024, reflecting on the strong partnership between airport and airline since joining the airport back in 2015. Thanks to Belfast City Airport and KLM for a lovely breakfast.
