ars mean many things to their drivers, but for South Africans and their Toyota Corollas, they mean a chance to discover the richness of our

land’s best-loved heritage destinations. As American novelist Henry Miller observed: “A destination is never a place, but always a new way of seeing things.” Travelling the width and length of our country, with its glorious natural diversity, is a true privilege.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PRESTIGE Can you imagine how many kilometres of our roads, both tarmac and gravel, have been driven by the Toyota Corolla over the many decades since it was introduced to SA? Launched on our shores in 1966, the Corolla’s captured the hearts of many South African families. It’s been manufactured locally in

KwaZulu-Natal since 1975 and has grown into the nation’s best-loved sedan. This status spurred Toyota to release a special-edition Corolla – the Prestige Plus (Prestige+) – during Heritage Month to remind the nation to dust off their passion for the car, blend it with their love for our country and hit the road. The Prestige+ is a love letter to SA – as the custom advertising campaign for the special-edition vehicle reveals, with the hashtags #LoveDriving and #KilometresOfLove. The idea driving the campaign – the beaded Zulu love letter – is deeply embedded in the Zulu culture. These love letters are handmade by Zulu women for the ones they love, with each colour and design of the beads meaning a different thing. Using this uniquely South African visual language – and by creating the biggest Zulu love letter ever, where each bead represents thousands

of kilometres travelled collectively – Toyota will celebrate the long-standing relationship between the Corolla and our nation. The Prestige+ comes standard with

a bi-tone colour scheme and glossy roof in Attitude Black. The glossy black treatment continues in the upper and lower radiator grilles, which further enhance the three exterior colour schemes available: Glacier White, Satin Silver and Graphite Grey. The car’s interior is also elevated, with the change to a leather and fabric combination for the seats and Prestige+ branded floor mats. A Piano Black effect has been applied to the door trim accents (usually silver in the normal Corolla models) to complete the package and visually tie in with the exterior elements. A key feature of the Prestige+ model is the addition of ultra-stylish 17” alloy wheels.
