ON THE MOVE

THE LITTLE TRUCK THAT COULD

Not many motorists are still sprightly enough to be running a delivery business at the age of 75, but for entrepreneur Andrea Androulidakis, it’s business as usual, thanks to his trusty Dyna delivery vehicle

His Toyota Dyna is still comparatively young, but Andrea’s so happy with his vehicle that his daughter Katina wrote to Toyota, praising it for producing such a reliable truck for her father’s business. “My father bought a brand-new Dyna

in 2012 and this little truck has endured quite a lot,” she wrote. “My dad uses it to do his deliveries to local farms. He drives in all sorts of conditions – paved roads, dirt roads, fully loaded, pouring rain… you name it! He’s put more than 400 000km on this truck of his. “Despite the hard labour it’s gone

through, my dad hasn’t once had to replace the brakes or any other parts of the vehicle. So we wanted to reach out to say ‘thank you’ for providing us with such a quality vehicle.” The Dyna (short for “dynamic”) is a

medium-duty cab-over-engine truck designed for commercial use and with great reliability built in, as Andrea and his daughter can attest!

SALES RISE IN EMERGING MARKETS Proof that emerging markets hold huge potential for the motor

industry came in the latest results for Toyota’s fiscal year to 31 March 2018

The figures recorded a slight dip in overall sales, with 8 964 394 units sold. That was down by 6 466 units on the previous fiscal. Sales fell slightly in the organisation’s home turf of Japan, as well as in North America and Asia, but rose for the reporting regions covering Africa, Central and South America, Oceania and the Middle East. In those territories, 1 391 731 units were sold, up by 44 549 from

the previous year. Operating income for the region also rose by 54,7 billion yen to 118,1 billion yen.

TOYOTA CHUMS UP WITH SUZUKI Toyota and Suzuki are discussing new joint projects in the field

of technological development, building on a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year

The two companies have since been pursuing concrete forms of co-operation and have broadened their scope to include joint efforts in production and market development. One agreement will see Toyota provide Suzuki with technological support

to develop a compact, ultra-high-efficiency powertrain. Another deal will see Suzuki vehicles being shipped to Africa to be sold and supported by both Toyota and Suzuki sales networks, and co-operation with the logistics and support services.
