Inside ICI The Value of Face to Face Interactions
by Jennifer Cioffoletti, Staff Associate T
he ICI’s 2024 Business and Leadership Development Conference “BLDC” was in Santa Fe, NM this year. As the Investment Casting
Institute’s newest employee, starting in August of 2023, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Since this was my first conference, I followed closely behind Barbara Tiseo, the Meeting and Event Planner, and tried to soak in everything as it was happening. It turned out to be a wonderful event, and a great learning experience. Having gone through the agenda, the program, and
the tours with the team before I left the office, I was shocked at how many details there were to attend to once we arrived in Santa Fe days before the event. There were board meeting specifics, room assignments, food placement, attendee adjustments, and furniture needs. The Devil’s in the Details, and the number of details and the level of organization that takes place organizing what happens behind the scenes for an event like this are what makes them great. From what I heard from the team: the BLDC was the “easiest” meeting compared to some others! By Sunday, everything was set and the Members started
to show up. Some were boisterous and others reserved, but everyone was professional, friendly and eager to network with their peers for the next few days. While technology has undoubtedly changed the way we connect, there are definite benefits to in-person meetings like this. Although I have spoken to many of these Members over the phone or via email, being present at this conference and being able to meet and establish a personal connection with the Members was invaluable. There is something special about sharing experiences in a casual atmosphere that makes the connection
valuable. This type of face-to-face connection is what makes conferences like the BLDC more important than ever. Santa Fe was the perfect location to get everyone talking, as no matter where you turned there were breathtaking sights and deep history to talk about. I was lucky enough to go on both the Networking Event to Bandelier National Monument as well as the Guest Event walking tour of downtown Santa Fe. Getting outside for some fresh air and beautiful views allowed me to make some connections with our Members which will strengthen our communication in the future. I hope to meet even more Members at the AM4IC
Conference in Youngstown, Ohio on June 11th & 12th. See you there!
