Shifting out of that focused

environment, Sarah provided three open-door sessions on behalf of ARSA for the Rotor Safety Challenge: “Building a Professional Relationship with the Government,” “Best Practices in Maintenance Recordkeeping” and “Self Disclosure – Avoiding Self Exposure.” Each of these sessions allowed the general attendee population to learn about (and see how to access) a number of tools and resources produced by the association to improve how aviation businesses engage with the FAA and manage their paperwork requirements. The three sessions represent a perfect example of the “teaching you how to fi sh” mindset that pervades ARSA’s work: Serve the entire industry in a way that helps it comply with the rules…recognizing that occasionally OFM&K’s more-direct intervention will be necessary. Of course, just because someone

might’ve been able to see Marshall and Sarah in both their ARSA and

OFM&K roles during the event won’t necessarily make it less confusing. In fact, it doesn’t really have to. All that’s needed is for HELI-EXPO attendees to realize…just as we encourage D.O.M. readers to do — how association representation and direct counsel can be balanced to help understand both everyday and emergency issues of regulatory compliance. Whether you seek this balance

through the organizations I represent or others, I encourage you to think carefully about what entities give voice to your needs and who will come to your aid in times of crisis. Throughout the eff ort, of course, never stop seeking information through training and experience in order to best perform your work and abide by the rules. Whether you were able to

participate in Anaheim or not, much of the material presented by Sarah and Marshall is available through ARSA’s online training program. To
