ARSA CORNER BY BRETT LEVANTO, VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS, AERONAUTICAL REPAIR STATION ASSOCIATION I once got forwarded an email from myself.

This is what happened: A colleague received a message

from another organization and recognized the topic to be of potential interest to me; it had to do with aviation workforce development. He quickly sent along the message, with the typical “thought you’d want to see this” alert at the top. I recognized the subject immediately and scrolled down to the bottom of the original email…seeing my own signature in connection with the organization from which the message was originally sent. I responded with thanks for the update and noted – with some humor – that I was intimately familiar with the content.

While I’m primarily known for my

work on behalf of the Aeronautical Repair Station Association, I’m actually employed by the “boutique” law fi rm that manages ARSA – Obadal, Filler, MacLeod & Klein, P.L.C. This sometimes causes

WHO YOU’RE DEALING WITH

confusion – you should see how long it takes us to explain the nuances of this relationship even to new team members joining the fi rm – but allows my team and me to serve a wide range of needs and interests in aviation. From specifi c client issues with certifi cation or enforcement to making good on the needs of the entire industry via a trade association, from my desk I can impact the aviation world in a number of ways. If you attended this year’s HAI HELI-EXPO in Anaheim, you saw some of this relationship at work. My bosses Marshall Filler and Sarah MacLeod, who each bear both “managing member” titles for OFM&K and executive roles for ARSA, were on hand to off er both professional education courses and Rotor Safety Challenge sessions for event participants. There’s no other venue where members of my team so clearly display the value of both the fi rm’s work and the association’s representation of the industry.

On behalf of the fi rm and in

support of HELI-EXPO’s professional education series, Marshall and Sarah presented three sessions: “Regulatory Comprehension for Maintenance,” “Regulations Aff ecting Aircraft Part Purchase and Sale” and “Public Aircraft Operations.” OFM&K has been providing its expertise on these kinds of topics – in addition to the original full-day “Regulation 101,” the fi rm has off ered a rotating catalogue of various regulatory issues – for more than 15 years. Each of these sessions brings

Marshall and Sarah’s long experience to bear on specifi c content, providing them the opportunity to dive deep into questions and explore the needs of their attendees in a closed, multiple-hour session. This hands- on engagement demonstrates the fi rm’s primary value to its clients and off erings to the industry: applied understanding of where the real world and the regulations meet… what we call “the intersection of business and government.”
