MORE TEAMS AND EVENTS HIGHLIGHT 2019 AMC

BY STEVE STAEDLER

YOU DON’T NEED TO REMIND BONNIE TURNER WHAT’S AT STAKE WHEN SHE LEADS HER TEAM OF TALENTED WOMEN INTO BATTLE THIS MONTH AT THE AEROSPACE MAINTENANCE COMPETITION (AMC) PRESENTED BY SNAP-ON.

“The AMC is the Olympics of being an aerospace technician; it’s the best of the best,” says Turner, captain of Team Chix Fix, one of four teams from United Airlines competing in the AMC. “The ability to work together as a team. It’s the Olympics. You want to be on the podium. You want to be best in the industry.” For Team Chix Fix to be best in the industry, they’ll have to top a record 83 other teams from around the world. While bragging rights are on the line, the AMC has progressed through the years to also become an annual educational seminar for hundreds of students aspiring to become aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs).

6 DOMmagazine.com | apr 2019 AMC founders John Goglia and

Ken MacTiernan are most proud of this altruistic goal of passing down the knowledge, skills and integrity to the next generation of students, while honoring the industry’s best through competition. The AMC has become a global sensation for aviation maintenance that attracts thousands of participants and spectators every year. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, and it kicks off this month at the MRO Americas convention in Atlanta.

ATTRACTING THE BEST

OF THE BEST The Aerospace Maintenance Competition Presented by Snap- on has been described as the Super

Bowl for the aviation maintenance industry. The AMC provides a venue for professional AMTs and students to come together in friendly competition, test their skills against each other and give a loud shout-out to their presence in the industry. “The AMC is the foremost

international competitive skills event for aviation technicians” says John Goglia, president of the Aerospace Maintenance Council and a former National Transportation Safety Board member. “It connects professional technicians from major airlines, MROs and OEMs, as well as military personnel, and students in the aviation career path, so they can demonstrate their skills and knowledge of their craft.”
