along with all the volunteers, are vital in helping us put on a successful event. We can’t say thank you enough.”

MENTORING AND ESPRIT

DE CORPS Perhaps one of the most surprising off shoots of the AMC has been the evolution of mentoring students. Watching “the pros” take a keen interest in the student teams, passing down guidance, insight and wisdom is something John Goglia appreciates most. “What we do here at the competition is mainly for the students,” he said. “Our goal is to provide them mentoring and get them introduced into the industry. What I’ve seen over the past several years is simply amazing. The amount of mentoring that goes on between my generation, the old gray hairs, and the students, is really exciting to see as the process take place. If you haven’t been here to see it, you’re missing out.” The opportunities to learn from

the professionals and network has become such a valuable benefi t for students competing in the AMC. “For me personally, I’m looking

that’s dedicated to doing what it takes to keep passengers safe. “I want participants to take away the knowledge that we belong to a global community of skilled craftspeople,” MacTiernan says. “An aircraft doesn’t care about my gender, the color of my skin or the color of my uniform — what matters are the knowledge, skill and integrity of the wrench that’s going to be fi xing that aircraft. That’s what’s on display at the AMC. These men and women are the best of the best.”
