Travel Counsellors trip to Orlando
In May, InteleTravel also announced a
newly created training manager role, with Alex Brown implementing and driving a new training strategy for the company’s advisors. It’s not just about making sure new recruits
have all the expertise to hit the ground running. The focus is also on the existing workforce and how they are performing. The Personal Travel Agents’ headcount has remained unchanged from 150 last year, with the company preferring to focus on raising its average booking value, which currently stands at £4,240.
GROWTH SPURT These reports of agencies’ growth are backed up by suppliers’ figures. Sales from homeworking agents made up nearly a quarter of Gold Medal’s business (23%) during the last financial year, as well as

being above the firm’s average growth rate of 16% year on year. Riviera Travel’s recruitment of a homeworker-focused business manager has also seen numbers skyrocket. “Since Amanda Docherty started in April 2024 as a national sales manager for homeworkers, our homeworking business has increased by 54%,” says Vicky Billing, the company’s director of trade and partnerships. Wendy Wu Tours has also reported

significant increases in the number of homeworkers bringing in bookings. “With key homeworking partners signing up for the first time this year, and the number of existing homeworking partners, this has almost doubled the total number of homeworkers registered with Wendy Wu to 20,000, compared with last year,” explains Gary King, head of trade sales.
FLEXIBLE FUTURE The promise of flexibility continues to draw many agents to homeworking. And now the difference is the incredible choice of agencies they have to pick from. “Those who are interested in becoming a travel agent have more options than ever before to help them succeed,” says Karen Fletcher, trade partnerships director, Gold Medal. “As more people discover they can sell holidays from their homes and around their busy schedule, we believe that this sector will only become more popular over the coming years.” What’s refreshing to hear is that
companies ranging from Hays Travel to 1,000 Mile Travel Group are noticing an upward trend in new-to-travel agents. This wealth of choice for aspiring homeworking agents only helps the industry to improve as companies develop new strategies and technologies to get an edge. Luke Skinner, director at Your Endless Travel, says: “We expect to see continued growth in the sector, along with improvements in the support and professional development that agencies give their teams – a natural consequence of the presence of more competition in this space.” The homeworking sector is one that
continues to grow and grow – and there’s no sign of that changing in the near future.
