HIGH-END ENTRANTS Brands better known for their hotels and luxury trains played a growing role in the cruise sector, with companies such as The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Four Seasons Yachts and Orient Express contributing 56 new luxury ships due to enter service in the next four years. Senior leaders at the Clia Conference in Southampton called it “the best thing that has happened to the cruise industry in years” because it has the potential to expand the market by bringing a new audience of millions to cruise.

SOLO SURGE Solo travellers grew in number across river, ocean and expedition cruising, with Riviera Travel claiming a world-first with plans for a solo-exclusive ship, the George Eliot, for a full season in 2027. Leaders at the Clia RiverView conference called the segment “one of the fastest-growing” in the market. Operators in expedition and ocean expanded their offerings for solo travellers, from Ponant Explorations and AE Expeditions waiving single supplements to Norwegian Cruise Line and Oceania Cruises adding more solo cabins.

WORKING TOGETHER There were more examples of collaboration between cruise companies this year. Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and Seabourn combined river and ocean for 2026 with a Venice and the Mediterranean Sea package: passengers will sail around the Venetian Lagoon for seven nights on Uniworld’s La Venezia before boarding Seabourn Quest to sail through the Adriatic to Athens for a week.
