ZAGARA BEAUTY SPA Silver Muse, Silversea Cruises

I’m in the Mood Room, a lavender-scented haven illuminated with glowing blue, where all spa-goers on Muse start their experience. There’s nothing to do but sit back and switch off, calmed by scents and scrubs you choose yourself. I’m here for a Swedish massage, but for regular spa-goers who like to chalk up the weird and wonderful, there’s plenty to entice. A warming bamboo muscle melt (from $199) sounds irresistible, while the Thousand Flower Detox Wrap (from $249) is intriguing. The spa has nine treatment rooms, a thermal suite with heated loungers, sauna and steam room (pass prices vary), and a hair and nail salon.

Book it: From £5,500 per person, including flights, for a 14-day round-trip cruise from Sydney to New Caledonia and Fiji, departing February 18, 2020. silversea.com

MAREEL WELLNESS AND BEAUTY Queen Elizabeth, Cunard

With an old Norse name said to mean ‘phosphorescence of the ocean’, it’s only fitting that the blue, green and pale coral decor in Cunard’s new Mareel spa is reminiscent of the sea, and that many of the treatments have maritime links. There’s a luminescence massage ($195) that uses algae to get skin glowing, a detox seaweed bath ($125) to cleanse the body, and a spiced mud wrap ($168) to stimulate the metabolism. The spa, created with Canyon Ranch, opened on board Queen Elizabeth late last year, and also has a thermal room with a pool, sauna and steam rooms, plus a hair and nail salon and meditation room. There’s also one on board Queen Victoria.

Book it: From £1,499 per person cruise-only for a 10-night Alaska voyage, round-trip from Vancouver, departing June 2, 2020. cunard.com

AUREA SPA MSC Seaview, MSC Cruises

There’s something very different about MSC’s Aurea Spa – be it the Balinese masseuses who greet you, or the fact that you can get rubbed down with Tuscan-grown grapes in a range of vinotherapy treatments (a Cabernet firming facial costs €109). Traditional facials are available from €99, with massages from €130. The spa is spectacular in terms of its size and facilities, featuring 22 treatment rooms, and a hair and nail salon. The standout is the thermal suite, with two saunas, light and dark steam rooms, snow room, thalassotherapy pool, hammam and salt room (free for Aurea and Yacht Club passengers, otherwise €50 a day). A medi-spa offers Botox and scary-sounding electroporation to zap away facial lines.

Book it: From £999 per person cruise-only for a seven-night Western Mediterranean itinerary round-trip from Barcelona, departing May 8, 2020. msccruises.co.uk
