Brian Young

managing director, EMEA, G Adventures

As we continue our countdown to the Agent Achievement Awards in July, we catch up with Brian Young, EMEA managing director of headline sponsor G Adventures

Q. The AAAs are the biggest travel agent awards in the UK. What have you been doing this year to improve G Adventures’ relationship with the trade? A. It’s been a busy 12 months for G Adventures with the trade, which continues to make up a large portion of our UK business. We have continued to grow our outside sales team of global purpose specialists, adding more firepower to allow us to see and support more agents. In November last year, we launched our Changemakers roadshows in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin, where we presented our product news and technology developments to over 100 agents. We also launched a new suite of marketing tools for agents which includes sell sheets, in-store collateral and window point of sale, and funding for localised marketing.

Q. Why are agents so important to your business? A. Agents have always been the backbone to G Adventures here in the UK, which is why initiatives such as price parity are so important. We value the relationship we have with all our partners as we understand agents play an invaluable role in the sales chain, connecting the right traveller to the right tour.

Q. The 2019 awards have had some new categories, which is the most exciting for your company? A. As a founder member of the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers, it’s great to see the new Atas Ambassador award. We strongly believe in the power of a unified approach when it comes to educating agents. And as the market leader in adventure travel, it’s great to see the sector getting more recognition with the new Touring and Adventure Agency award.

Q. What’s been the big news at G Adventures in the last year? A. This year has been a huge one for us, both in terms of market-leading product development, responsible travel policies and agent engagement initiatives. Over the past 12 months we became the largest adventure travel company to launch a collection of tours dedicated to adventure and wellness with the creation of our Wellness travel style. Earlier this year, we launched our range of tailor-made travel solutions, allowing agents to offer travellers curated adventures in 11 destinations. It’s also been a busy 12 months for our responsible travel policies, with our Child Welfare guidelines being launched in June 2018 and G Adventures becoming the first
