So much to do in SAINT LUCIA

Saint Lucia is known for its beautiful beaches, from the classic white Caribbean grains to darker volcanic sands. But whilst the island is a favourite for honeymooners and sun-seekers, there is so much more to Saint Lucia than just its coastline. Here are Premier Holiday’s top ten things to do in Saint Lucia.

1) The Piton Mountains The Piton Mountains in Soufriere are a majestic sight as they soar from the surf and are a must-see for anyone visiting the island. A natural wonder of the West Indies, this UNESCO World Heritage Site can be climbed, starting from a nearby countryside village. It is a hard climb and not for the faint hearted, but the view along the way makes it all worthwhile. The Piton Mountains are stunning however you see them, whether that’s by boat, land or air.

2) Dr ive-in Volcano Whilst visiting the Pitons, another must-visit location is Sulphur Springs, the Caribbean’s only drive-in volcano. Volcanic activity created the Pitons and you can still witness this activity at Sulphur Springs. The Springs are an active geothermal zone with gently bubbling mud pools and vents fi lling the air with sulphurous steam. Why not also take a muscle-soothing dip in the mud baths, which claim to make you look years younger and heal sunburns, arthritis and more!

3) Bean to Bar Experience Cocoa has been cultivated on Saint Lucia since the 17th century so there are plenty of opportunities to visit plantations and try your hand at creating your own chocolate bar. Hotel Chocolat offers a tree-to-bar experience – pick your own ripe cocoa pods to then use in your own chocolate creations. You can even stay in Hotel Chocolat’s own hotel ‘Boucan’ on a cocoa plantation for a completely different experience. This is a fascinating activity for all the family.

4) Tet Paul Nature Trail Tet Paul Nature Trail is a great example of what makes Saint Lucia so unique. Take a guided walk around the family owned estate to see the country’s best scenery. See Jalousie Bay, the Pitons and neighbouring isles of Martinique and St Vincent. Walking the trail also gives an insight into the lives of the island’s Amerindian people and how they lived in bygone years, so take time to stop at a traditional dwelling house and cassava hut. The island’s exotic plants are out in full display on the trail and experts can provide knowledge about all of their medicinal properties. The trail also gives a magnifi cent view of the Petit Piton Mountain.
